TJ McCarthy is a performer, choreographer, and creative originally from the Philadelphia suburbs. A proud graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, where he majored in Theatre, TJ is currently pursuing a BFA in Musical Theater with a minor in Commercial Dance at Pace University.

This June, TJ will be appearing as Fender in Hairspray at The Muny. Following that, he will return to The Rev Theatre Company this summer for Tarzan, where he will perform in the ensemble while understudying Tarzan.

Most recently, TJ was part of the skeleton crew for a new work funded by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago through The Verdon Fosse Legacy. The piece was co-choreographed by Bob Fosse and Linda Haberman, who worked directly with Fosse and helped choreograph many of the iconic Radio City Christmas Spectacular productions seen at Radio City Music Hall.

Onstage, TJ played Buttons in Newsies, directed by Richard J. Hinds in California, and later returned to the role of Romeo in another production of the show at The Rev Theatre Company. His additional performance credits include productions of Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, and Oklahoma!, as well as dancing in pre-production for several Encores! productions under Mayte Natalio and Tony Award nominee Ellenore Scott.

As a creative, TJ served as Assistant Choreographer for the Off-Broadway production of Camp Rock in New York City, collaborating with Jeorgi Smith and Laura Luc. TJ also choreographed for NBC TODAY’s Halloween special featuring Sheinelle Jones and performed and choreographed a Beyoncé special alongside Pace dancers. Other creative highlights include Mukti, which premiered at Lincoln Center in 2023.
